Removing Age Spots

September 24, 2010

Almost everybody can have age spots, which also goes by the name sun spots or solar lentigines. The skin’s exposure to the sun is one of its underlying factors. Age spots treatments are just around so you can find ways to get rid of them. You can treat them at home or have it treated in a clinic. But before we go on, let’s review the origin of age spots.

All of us have melanin, the one which is responsible for skin color. Excessive ultraviolet rays are took in by melanin. Too much ultraviolet radiation can damage skin cells, and worse it could also lead to cancer.   Spots are formed when used melanin accrues.

seeing a dermatologist is a must to be sure that what you have is age spots, not pre cancerous spots. You can test the following treatments if you are already sure that they are age spots:

•    Extracted onion juice and apple cider must be mixed in an equal proportion. apply the solution on the age spots with cotton.

•    Aloe vera can also be applied in liberal amounts on skin. Apply them twice a day and leave it on skin to dry for almost an hour.

•    Lemon juice can also improve age spots. Just apply newly squeezed lemon juice in the morning and in the evening, leaving it to dry for about thirty minutes. Bear in mind that after the application, going outside is not recommended.

•    Castor oil is not just for constipation, you can also use for solar lentigines. Just apply it twice daily.

The downside of the methods mentioned above is that it may not have any effect at all. So, you may try more efficient alternatives.

•    Microdermabrasion/dermabrasion –     This procedure involves the peeling of skin using kneading. Classic dermabrasion is painful and bloody so this type of treatment is rare nowadays.

•    Chemical peels is another alternative when it comes to removing age spots. Chemical peels use chemicals to remove old skin cells allowing the regeneration of new skin cells.

•    Although expensive, you can be sure that laser treatments will give you a more lasting outcome. The good thing about laser treatment is that it does not damage neighboring cells. Pain is lessened with laser treatments.

If you already have gone through such procedures and eventually got rid of dark spots, its time to give your skin more care. As always, prevent too much sun exposure. The use of any sun protection be it umbrella or sunscreens is recommended. You won’t want these age spots to come back, do you?
